Liberty Motorsports returns to oval competition this Saturday (June 19), when Round Four of the Cooper Tires presents the USF2000 National Championship powered by Mazda takes place at the Iowa Speedway. Rookie Terrick Mansur, having showed good speed in his circle track debut two weeks ago, will be joined under the Illinois team’s awning by series newcomer Brian Belardi.
In Liberty Motorsports continued quest for wins and championship titles during its first full-season of pro Formula Ford 2000 competition, the team will travel to Iowa for the first time with two new weapons in its arsenal – a new engine for Mansur and the addition of Belardi to the USF2000 driver line-up.
Mansur, having utilized a Ford Zetec powerplant in the opening three rounds, will have a brand new Mazda MZR engine in his Aruba.com backed No. 14 Liberty Motorsports Van Diemen when the action gets underway at the Iowa Speedway. With the Aruba native - who currently resides in Florida – having experienced oval racing for the first time in Round Three, and once again being guided by oval engineer standout Larry Nash, expectations are high entering the fourth race on the series calendar.
In Belardi, Liberty Motorsports will have yet another highly skilled racer under the awning. The team principal joins the squad’s USF2000 efforts full-time having achieved good success over the years in the SCCA Club Racing Formula Continental ranks – winning a National Division title and finishing on the podium at the National Championship Runoffs – and raced at the pro level via the F2000 Championship Series. Racing in the National class, the goal is to not only challenge for top honors week in and week out, but exit the season with the series title.
“Having Brian join the USF2000 program will be a big help to the team,” stated Chuck Lessick, Liberty Motorsports Team Manager. “Having a second car to share development time and data with is going to be a big assistance to our USF2000 program.”
Both Mansur and Belardi will first take to the 7/8-mile Iowa Speedway oval on Friday (June 18), with two hour-long test sessions and a half-hour practice run. Saturday (June 19) will feature single-car qualifying in the morning, followed by the green flag for Round Four of the Cooper Tires presents the USF2000 National Championship powered by Mazda at 3:35 p.m. local time. |
